Hey there Reader, heyy!
Good Monday!
A few years ago, at a retreat in Santa Fe, I bought two little window stickers designed to catch the sunlight and scatter rainbows around the room.
One said, "Change takes time," with an illustration of the moon's phases.
The other said, "Today is a good day to have a good day."
I loved them, but I took them home and didn't put them on the windows.
What if the adhesive damaged the glass? What if the stickers cracked or became impossible to remove?
What if, what if, what if?
So I stuck them on my refrigerator with magnets.
For years.
Yep, the woman who teaches people to live lives they love was saving her rainbows for another day.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, I was tidying and caught myself.
Why am I worrying about what might happen someday instead of enjoying what's possible today?
And I reminded myself of something I know to be true:
Whatever happens, I can handle it.
If the stickers eventually fade, crack, or become difficult to remove, I'll figure it out. I don't need to solve tomorrow's imaginary problems before allowing myself today's pleasure.
So I put the first sticker on a sunny window.
And oh, the delight!
Little rainbows danced around the room, moving as the sunlight shi
fted throughout the day.
All those years, I'd been imagining what might go wrong. I hadn't imagined how much could go right.
And even if something does go wrong someday, I trust myself to handle it.
Remember Erma Bombeck's encouragement to use the good china and burn the candles?
I'm adding something to the list.
Don't save your rainbows.
Wear the beautiful dress. Use the good dishes. Light the candle. Open the expensive soap.
Whatever little pleasure you've been saving for someday, consider enjoying it today.
You don't have to guarantee that everything will work out perfectly.
You can trust yourself to navigate what comes next.
Your tiny rise step this week: Notice one simple pleasure you've been postponing because of a what if.
Ask yourself, "If that happens, could I handle it?"
Maybe today is a good day to have a good day.
With grit, grace, and gratitude,
Coach Lori
P.S. What little pleasure have you been saving for someday? Hit reply and tell me. I'd love to hear about it.
